FAQ: Portraits

What type of photography do you specialize in?

I specialize in shooting “life cycle imagery” which means that I aim to photograph my clients’ in their entire life cycle – engagement shoot, boudoir session, wedding, and then moving on to a maternity session, newborn & baby’s first year package, and yearly child or family shoots.

What is the best way to get in touch with you?

You can give me a call at 954.247.1121 or click here for my contact form. I try to return calls and emails within 2 business days. Please note that unless I have a client with an emergency, I typically do not answer work email or return voicemails on the weekend, and my response times during holiday seasons are a bit more limited. I appreciate your understanding! :)

What does a Lifestyle photographer do?

Lifestyle photography is hard to define, but I love to capture people doing real things and sharing real emotions – happy, sad, or in between. Children just being children, in the middle of an introspective moment. The newness of a just-born baby. Expectant parents sharing closeness. A woman in a boudoir session and letting her inhibitions melt away! A couple in love, allowing themselves to be absorbed in their emotions.

How much should I expect to spend?

Please contact me for a full price list.  Most of my clients tend to spend between $650 and $2,500 on their session, including their order of prints, albums, high-res files or other products.

What is a Mini Session?

A mini-session is offered on a specific day or date for a certain number of people. Each session is 20-30 minutes long depending on the session and has a set price that may include special products or a special package unique to the mini session. You receive an online gallery with a minimum of 10-15 images. Ordering is done a la carte, online, and a minimum order is not required. Mini-session discount pricing is offered for these sessions. A disc of 15 images from your mini session is available for $500 with a personal print license. Availability for mini sessions is very limited, but these sessions are great for documenting birthdays, back to school, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Grandparents, and more! These sessions are not available for newborns since there is not enough time included in a mini session to accomodate newborns.

Where should we shoot?

My shooting radius is Broward County, FL and Palm Beach as north as the Delray Beach area. A travel fee will apply for clients whose sessions take place outside of my shooting radius. A location fee applies for beach sessions as well.

There are a variety of beautiful parks, nature preserves, beaches, and urban areas within my  shooting radius, and I’m happy to give you suggestions based on the places I’ve photographed and loved! I’ll be able to tell you when the lighting is best for each location so that we can get the best shots.

If you are reserving me for a newborn session (or a very young baby), those are typically done at the family’s home.

I would like a family session with my toddler and/or baby. Can you make sure they look directly at the camera and smile for the portraits?

Nope, I can’t guarantee that! Toddlers are so unpredictable and it’s definitely the hardest age to photograph, especially if you catch them on a day (or during a half-hour period – moms know what I mean!) that they have decided they don’t want to work with you! Not only do I prefer to photograph kids in more of a candid manner (to capture more natural expressions), but children under 3 tend to be very serious in pictures — my own son included!

While I always aim to obtain a few smiley images of toddlers and babies and at least a few “looking at the camera” family shots, young children are highly unpredictable and many times can be uncooperative for photo shoots since they are in a new place and being photographed by someone who they don’t know. Due to this, I’ve found that the best thing to do with kids is try to have fun with them during the session and go with the flow. We are documenting a stage in your child and family’s life – no matter how crazy it is! :) One way you can encourage your kids to smile is by bringing a close friend or relative who your children know and love – this person can stand next to me during the session and make silly faces, sing songs your kids know, and help keep your little ones smiling and happy!

Do I need to have my hair and makeup done?

No, not usually… but some ladies like to have their hair blown out or lightly styled for their session, especially if it’s a couples session. It’s all personal preference. I recommend Darcy from South Florida Makeup Artistry or Amanda from AJ Designs.

Do you retouch the images? What kind of retouching is included? What is not?

I do very minor retouching on proofs, and for all ordered and printed images, I will perform blemish removal, skin smoothing and “liquifying” certain body parts if needed. What’s NOT included is the removal of tan lines, extensive tattoos, excessive acne, and dental braces. Other types of retouching may fall into the “not included” category, so if you’re not sure, please ask. This type of retouching can be extremely time consuming and will require a fee of $15 to $35 per image on average depending on how extensive the work is that needs to be done.

Can I purchase digital files from my session?

Absolutely, a disc of your final session images is available for $750 after you fulfill a minimum print purchase of $300. You can purchase the entire set of files or just a few favorites. No matter which way you choose, you’ll always receive a set of low-res watermarked proof files after your print order is placed so that you can review your images again or load them on to your iPhone to share with others!

How soon will I see my images?

About four weeks following your session, you’ll receive your online gallery & slideshow so that you can view your images and place your order for any prints, products, or files that you’d like to purchase. In peak times editing may take a little bit longer.

I’m ready to book a session! How do I proceed?
